MMB

Master of Microbial Biotechnology

The Master of Microbial Biotechnology (MMB) program is a Professional Science Master's program at NC State University. This program blends science and business in a novel way through both science and business focused coursework. Each semester, students gain real-world experience working with current industry professionals to produce a practicum project that solves or contributes to the needs of each company. Below is a summary of the practicum projects I have contributed to while in MMB.

Fall 2020: W.L. Gore

Inside Greenhouse

Through MMB, I have had the opportunity to work with W.L. Gore and a small team of fellow students to conduct a business analysis for a novel application of Gore's technology in agriculture practices. This involved interviews with key opinion leaders, a voice of customer campaign, and various market analyses, ultimately resulting in the creation of a preliminary business model canvas and executive summary.

Spring 2021: Diviner

Diviner is a new business founded in 2020 focused on collecting a network of experts in the biopharma industry that can use their collective intelligence to better predict the outcome of drugs in clinical trials. The goal of this practicum project was to investigate possible trends in stock prices of companies with drugs in clinical trials. This information could then be used to help prove the predictive capabilities of Diviner and fund the company during its early phases.

Fall 2021: Thermo Fisher

I had the opportunity to work in a small team with the Patheon divison of Thermo Fisher Scientific to characterize the oral solid dosage (OSD) market. This included both a summary of the market and in depth research into a few of the key contract development and manufacturing organizations (CDMOs) in the OSD space. I also had the opportunity to work as a mentor in this team, helping our first year MMB teammates to fill any gaps in knowledge they had.
